Our Geldings

We keep some good geldings on the farm for a variety of reasons. The most notable reason is for training and discipline purposes of our young sporthorse prospects. We believe in the herd mentality of raising young horses. When foals are young they spend their first months of life with their mothers. When a foal is weaned, they are turned out with an "uncle" gelding, who normally adopts and protects them. As these youngsters mature, they are given pasture time with a group of geldings who teach them the ropes of herd life. This is an essential part of every horses growth. Learning respect for your elders and each other. The progress made by these young horses while with the herd is studied to ascertain disposition, personality, willingness and learning abilities.

The Geldings are also used to pony the young foal. In any situation, a good calm gelding can teach a wide eyed youngster how to handle himself. We pony at any event or just a good easy trail ride. Exposure is a key element in bringing up a good mind.

And lastly, the geldings are a safe ride for the family members and guests of Formula One Farms.

Cool Hand Lukens

1987 - 2007

Appaloosa

Lukas came to us from Idaho. We knew he was well behaved under saddle and had been used as a schooling horse. He was brought in to be Anthony's personal mount. We soon learned of his extraordinary talents and he was leased to a young lady in our local Appaloosa Club to show.

Lukas has gone on to greener pastures on March 4, 2007

Lucas was from the Ha-Dar Honey line of Appaloosas.
